UAE intellectual property: key legal questions
Key federal laws include Federal Decree-Law No. 36 of 2021 on Trademarks, Federal Law No. 11 of 2021 on the Regulation and Protection of Industrial Property Rights, and the applicable federal copyright legislation.

Depending on the right and claim, remedies may include injunction-type relief, damages, seizure or destruction of infringing goods, customs or border measures, cancellation-related relief and criminal complaints where the law permits.
A matter may involve clearance and registration, opposition or administrative challenge, cease-and-desist steps, evidence preservation, civil or criminal proceedings, judgment and enforcement.
Federal IP registrations remain central across the UAE, but DIFC and ADGM courts may hear disputes within their jurisdiction. Free-zone licensing and customs issues can also affect enforcement strategy.
